RM of Loon Lake looking for owner of nine horses

The RM of Loon Lake is asking for the owner of nine horses to come forward and claim them.

The animals were found in the Whelan area, west of Makwa Lake. Because there’s no visible signs of ownership, the horses will be impounded for the time being.

“There’s no brands, we don’t have any idea who the owner is,” administrator Erin Simpson said. “So, they will be kept until that person comes forward, or they are sold at auction.”

There are six female horses and three males, ranging in colour of greys, buckskins, and sorrels. One grey is described as a mule. All nine of them are reportedly in good condition.

Simpson said it’s not uncommon to find horses on the loose, as there are many animals running around in the region. However, it can become a hazard.

“We’ve had issues in the past, where people hit them on the roads, which is much like hitting a moose,” Simpson said. “They can also get into other people’s feed, cropland and can cause a number of problems.”

More information will be available in contacting the RM of Loon Lake.
