North Battleford reminding residents of ATV bylaw following complaints

May 14, 2021 | 1:12 PM

The City of North Battleford is reminding residents that All-Terran Vehicles (ATVs) are not permitted within city limits.

This comes following a number of complaints from residents after seeing and hearing motoroists utilizing ATVs in back alleys, neighbourhood streets and trails. Per Bylaw 1675, the City can seize and impound any ATV’s that violate the bylaw for up to 30 days, as well as issue tickets between $80-$580. Communications administrator Dustin MacDonald said these off-road vehicles sometimes pose a risk to pedestrians.

“We thought it was prudent to remind everyone that the ATVS aren’t permitted for use in the city,” he said. “They should be using them on Crown land, highway right of ways or private property if they have permission to be there.”

In a release, MacDonald highlighted specifically that ATVs are not permitted to be driven on the Pee Gee Man Trail or the North Shore Trail systems by the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Residents regularly utilize the trail system and young kids running between pathways provide a risk motorists might not be aware of while moving quickly.

“We want to ensure they aren’t on those hiking and cycling trails,” MacDonald said.

Census participation stressed, water flushing continues

The city is also stressing that residents fill out the 2021 Census questionnaire, which is currently being collected. MacDonald said it’s important because it impacts the budget on a number of levels, such as education.

“It effects funding, schools and a whole array of things,” he said. “So, the census is really important and we want to ensure everyone completes it.”

The city expects that all repairs to water main breaks that occurred earlier this week will be finished by the end of today.

“Typically, it would have been done yesterday, but due to the number of breaks, it will get done today,” MacDonald said.

The water flushing process, which stops the use of water at affected blocks after 7:00 p.m., is anticipated to have finished by at least May 24. Since the earlier breaks, MacDonald said things have gone smoothly and are expected to remain that way.

“All depends on how things go each night in the respective areas of the city.”
