New LSSD COVID cases, Macklin School re-opens

Living Sky School Division had five cases of COVID-19 in the region last week.

Four of those individual cases were found at North Battleford Comprehensive High School, while the other was reported from Cando Community School. LSSD is working with Public Health to ensure safety measures are in place and the schools remain open following a deep cleaning/sanitization.

Parents students and staff are being reminded to continue following daily health screenings and following existing protocols. No further details are being shared, due to privacy concerns.

Macklin School re-opens

LSSD also announced students from Macklin School returned to face-to-face learning on Friday, following a go-ahead from the Regional Medical Health Officer.

Students and their families had been going through online learning since the school moved to Level 4 on April 29. Everyone returning to the facility is asked to carefully monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and follow protocols.

As of May 16, there are almost 600,000 vaccines administered in the province, 44,531 active cases, 41,932 recoveries and 517 deaths. Vaccine eligibility has dropped to 20 years of age or older and those 85 and older can receive their second dose, along with those who had their first dose prior to February 15. The current fatality rate for COVID-19 in Saskatchewan is 1.2 per cent.
