Pickleball court installation begins in Humboldt

Work has begun on a pickleball court at Water Ridge Park in Humboldt.

On Thursday, the sod was lifted on the court across from the gazebo at the park.

The Water Ridge Park committee has raised enough money for the court, which is expected to cost approximately $30,000 and be finished in June or July.

“There’s lots of interest in pickleball,” Water Ridge Park committee president Breanna Landry said. “Right now we are just waiting for the weather to cooperate for us to get the concrete in.”

Lighting and a fence will also be put up around the pickleball court.

“We’re going to be posting progress pictures and updates on the pickleball court on our Facebook page,” Landry said. “They can go to the park and see what’s going on. There is lots for them to check out there. We just ask people to stay out of the construction zone at this time.”

The committee is also fundraising to add a play structure to the park.

The City of Humboldt has committed to match the total amount of money raised by the committee up to $75,000.

The city will also maintain the court and playground after they are finished.

The committee has raised over $42,000 for the court and play structure.

Landry said she is hoping the playground will be completed for the summer of 2022.
