The Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce, Carlton Trail College and the City of Humboldt are holding an event Tuesday to promote reconciliation with Indigenous people.

The event will take place over Zoom at noon and will feature two presenters from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC).

OTC director of reconciliation and community partnerships Rhett Sangster and Amy Seesequasis, director of public education for the office will be making presentations. Sangster is from Tisdale and Seesequasis is from Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation.

“Amy and Rhett are very well-spoken,” Brent Fitzpatrick, the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce’s executive director said. “They are very accessible and friendly people. Having something this accessible with these great folks is going to be a nice first step for us.”

The event is free thanks to a $10,000 grant from the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce’s Training and Employment Network.

“This event is just an opportunity for business people and folks in our area to learn more about reconciliation,” Fitzpatrick said. “It’s something that I think we all want to work towards. We want everybody to participate. I think everybody needs to learn more so you have more understanding about our friends and our neighbours.”

Those interested in taking part must pre-register by emailing admin@humboldtchamber.ca or calling 306-276-7750.
