The Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) welcomed two additional members to their team during a small ceremony on Thursday, May 20.

Elder Liz Settee and Elder Leonard Ermine were gifted with cloth, tobacco, and a beaded Prince Albert police medallion in their welcome to the PAPS. They will be advising members and staff as they work together on reconciliation and understanding and share the teachings of Indigenous traditions and culture.

Both Settee and Ermine are well known for their work with youth in the community and the Prince Albert Grand Council.

“Today is a very important day for our police service and I want to thank Elder Settee and Elder Ermine for agreeing to work with us to support our service as we continue to move forward on our path toward reconciliation,” said Chief Jonathan Bergen in a press release. “In policing, we must always strive to represent those we serve in the community with respect and honour. Understanding the history of our community is important to our success as an organization.”
