The Battlefords North Stars are in the market for an assistant coach.

Following the announcement last week that assistant, Rob Holoien would be stepping away from his position to move closer to home, the team announced their vacant position via social media.

Head coach of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said the team will take as much time as needed in determining who will be to his right behind the bench come next season, as finding the right fit is key.

“It’s obviously a big hole with Rob [Holoien] leaving, and hopefully we can find the right person to step in,” Klimosko said.

“I think it’s really important that we get someone who has the same values as what I’m trying to accomplish, as well as what the organization is expecting, so we’re very excited about the applicants who will hopefully be applying and we’ll see where it goes.” – Head coach Brayden Klimosko.

Despite being held winless in their three games during the 2020-21 campaign prior to the season cancellation, the North Stars remain the winningest franchise in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) over the last three years since Klimosko took over at the helm.

Additionally, the team features a number of key young pieces heading into next year, including forwards Jake Southgate, Steven Kesslering and Ty Bahm, defencemen Tynan Ewart, and goaltender Austin Schwab among others.

“It’s just an exciting situation in a lot of ways,” Klimosko said of the team’s outlook for 2021-22. “It’s a fresh new season this fall, a refresh of where we’re at as a hockey club, and I think with sports starting to open up again there’s a real excitement there.”
