Brent Digness of Porcupine Plain was voted in as representative for Eastern Region II with the Metis Nation Saskatchewan.

Digness was named the interim representative in September and wanted to continue his work in the region.

“I am very thankful that the citizens who were able to vote, and those who came out that weren’t able to vote, supported me,” Digness said.

Moving forward, Digness is setting his focus on a couple different areas that include urban indigenous programming to help bring culture to the forefront of citizens and an understanding of culture.

“With that culture understanding, I believe that we will be able to implement a lot of the business ideas and the infrastructure that is needed in this region,” Digness said.

Some of the work that Digness has already done has been with the diamond mine company Rio Tinto at Fort a La Corne.

“I look forward to further conversations with Rio Tinto in regard to how our citizens can benefit from the project,” Digness said.

Digness wanted to reiterate his thanks to those who voted and assures them that their voice will be heard.

“It is the citizens that I represent that I plan to move the region forward to help them in growth, prosperity and future endeavours,” Digness said.

Dennis Miller and Britanny St. Denis were the other two candidates in Eastern Region II.
