Bus Shelter Damage

Prince Albert Police investigating reported bus shelter damage around City of P.A.

Jun 3, 2021 | 11:00 AM

UPDATE: On Friday afternoon paNOW spoke to the city about the cost of fixing the bus shelters.

Mohammad Kraishan, manager of engineering services with the City of P.A. told paNOW they share the cost of fixing each shelter 50/50, with the contractor they have hired.

“In average it does cost us between $300-$400 per glass panel,” Kraishan said.

Kraishan said there has been a dramatic increase recently in bus shelters vandalism around the city, so they are waiting for that to die down before replacing the glass, to avoid spending extra money.

“Because of the trend we are seeing here in the last year, we are evaluating the condition as we go to make sure we fix the glass at the right time, so it does not get broken again and again.

“At the beginning of this vandalism period we repaired the glass that was broken right away, and we saw repetitive activities.”

Once the condition improves the city will start to replace the glass panels that have been broken. There are 24 bus shelters in Prince Albert in total.

There have been multiple reports of bus shelter damaged in the City of Prince Albert and Prince Albert Police are currently investigating the situation.

Damage has been reported at the bus shelters along 10th Avenue West, the 1500 Block of 10th Avenue East, and 30th Street East, although there are multiple other shelters throughout the city that have been damaged as well.

The incidents reported occurred in late April and in May.

The incidents happened after dark and the glass may have been damaged using a pellet gun.

Surveillance video from the area shows a dark-colored truck in the area. Anyone with information about these incidents are asked to call police at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
