A weekend of rainfall – sometimes heavy – in Prince Albert and area means the immediate fire risk is over.

The City of P.A. has announced the fire ban for areas north of the North Saskatchewan River within the boundaries of the City of Prince Albert including Little Red River Park and the Hazeldell and Nordale residential areas has been lifted. The fire ban for Little Red was put in place May 7.

Also, the District of Lakeland has ended the fire ban it put in place June 3.

On Friday afternoon a wildfire was sparked in a remote area on Heritage Lake north of Candle Lake. Wind conditions were relatively calm and officials said the fire was moving away from any assets in the area.

Hot, dry and windy conditions last month resulted in the spread of the Cloverdale Fire on the northeast edge of the city which prompted evacuations. It was determined to have been caused by a lightning strike.

The weather forecast for Monday is calling for showers with a risk of a thunderstorm, winds gusting to 40 km/h, and highs to 19 C.
