The Ramada hotel on Second Ave. W. was host to a big lottery winner.

Western Canada Lottery Corporation was pleased to announce that Louisa Halkett of Prince Albert won the jackpot award of $1,468,781.43 on vault breaker at the hotel. The prize is awarded by the Saskatchewan VLT program.

“At first, I thought I had just won the smaller jackpot,” Halkett said in a media release. “When I looked at the amount on the screen I said, ‘Oh my … God! Really?!’ I was so surprised.”

The winner said she is going to put her new winnings toward the purchase of a house and new truck. She said she also hopes to take a vacation in Banff when it’s safe to do so.

Ernie Castelo, manager of Rogers Pub where the prize was won, said many customers are asking about the VLT hoping to win big.

“We’re very lucky that one of [our] regulars won the jackpot in our pub,” Castelo said.

paNOW reached out to the lottery winner and were declined a further interview.
