Paving work scheduled this summer on Main Street in Carrot River

Paving work is set to take place this summer on Main Street in Carrot River.

The work is scheduled to start in the beginning of August and is expected to be finished in three to five weeks.

“Our main street is part pavement and a little bit of gravel,” town administrator Brennan Hall said. “The street has been in rough shape for a long time. The pavement that is there is very worn out and there’s some spots that we consider hazardous. They’re going to mill down portions of the road. It’s about time that we get on that and make it nice.

“I believe the plan is to do work in sections on all of it. They are going to have to block off a portion some days while they do it. There will have to be alternate parking arrangements set up when we get to that point. It’s a tiny price to pay for a big payoff.”

The estimated total cost of the project is $825,000.

“We’re really promoting development and beautification of current businesses and getting them to fix their stuff up,” Hall added. “It gives them that little push. We figured we might as well do our part and make our road look nice. It’s been talked about for a long time.”

Spot repairs will also be done on some sidewalks.

“We’ve decided to salvage as much as we can that’s still good to save us money instead of ripping out all the sidewalks and gutters,” Hall said. “Some sections need total repairs.”
