Two Humboldt schools renew rivalry with fundraiser

St. Augustine School and St. Dominic School in Humboldt are taking part in a friendly competition to raise money for their Catholic School Community Councils (CSCC).

A 50/50 raffle is being held online until June 29, and the schools are splitting the proceeds evenly.

“It will help fund different things in the school like additional resources that teachers don’t get in the budget and lots of extras to support the students and the teachers,” St. Dominic CSCC fundraising and volunteer coordinator Cathy Zimmerman said. “We typically do a lot of fundraisers through the year, but with COVID-19 restrictions, we weren’t able to do that this year.”

Zimmerman said they are still thinking of a prize or additional incentive for the school that raises the most money.

People can choose what school they are supporting when buying a ticket.

“The competition is an incentive for the students to go home and encourage their family and their friends to spread the word and hopefully purchase some tickets,” Zimmerman added. “My goal is to sell $10,000 worth of tickets. We just want to motivate the students and get them involved.”

The draw is taking place June 30 and there will be a guaranteed $5,000 minimum prize.

“We will announce which school sold more tickets when we do the draw,” Zimmerman said.
