The Battlefords North Stars have announced the signing of forward Colby Bear.

A veteran of the prep school hockey ranks, Bear spent the last three years as a member of the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy in Manitoba, picking up 36 goals and 76 points in 72 career games over the last three seasons split between the U17, 18U, and varsity teams.

Showing good size at 6-2, 192 pounds at 18-year-old, head coach and general manager of the Stars, Brayden Klimosko said Bear should fit in well within their young core of forwards.

“He’s a big strong forward and I think he thinks the game well,” Klimosko said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how he transitions to junior hockey, and think it might really benefit his game just with how physically mature he is already. That only bodes well for him at the junior ranks.”

Bear was a member of the Pilot Mound Buffaloes club that took home the 2020 Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) U17 Championship, scoring five points in five games on the team’s playoff run to the league championship.
