RM council votes out administrator, pursues ‘new direction’

The Rural Municipality (RM) of Prince Albert is searching for a new administrator.

This comes following a vote by council on June 10, to part ways with Roxanne Roy. When contacted by paNOW, Reeve Eric Schmalz said he could not comment on the specifics of the decision.

“Council decided to move the RM in a new direction and that’s all I can say about it,” he said.

Roy had been with the RM for seven-and-a-half years, and has roughly spent the past five years as the administrator. Among the bigger projects she was more recently involved with was a major development near the junction of highways 2 and 11. When further pressed if there was one specific reason for council’s vote, or a combination of factors, again Schmalz declined comment.

“The discussion happened in-camera and is protected by legislation,” he said.

When paNOW contacted Roy, she described her time with the RM as “great”, and added she said was completely caught off guard by council’s decision and had no idea what was behind it.

In November 2016, former administrator Terrence Schneider, was also fired by the council of the day without cause. Roy was his replacement.
