Charity Steer fundraiser receives another large donation

Inspired by the generosity of a local business owner and 4-H club, JGL Livestock has added a nearly $50,000 donation to the 2021 Charity Steer Show and Sale.

This is the second year the cattle company, based in Moose Jaw, has sponsored the charity steer. They donated it to Wild Rose 4-H Beef Club who ended up raising a total of $49,930. That total was matched by the owner of Prince Albert’s Canadian Tire, Malcolm Jenkins.

Alan Jackson, cattle buyer for JGL in Prince Albert said when head office heard about the great success, they were inspired by the work of the 4-H club members and Jenkins’ generosity, so they too decided to contribute a matching donation.

“I’ve been with JGL for 16 years and they have always been great at giving back to the community,” said Jackson. “They always did this stuff down in southern Saskatchewan but as the company has grown across western Canada, they’re spreading their goodwill elsewhere and it feels great to work for a company with big hearts like that.”
