The eight-game winning streak the Prince Albert Royals are on have vaulted them into first place in the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League AA standings.

They are now 8-1-1 after their fourth consecutive weekend sweep, with 8-2 and 9-3 wins over the Moose Jaw Canucks on Sunday at Andy Zwack Field.

Royals’ Brady Robin got the start in the first game, going 5.2 innings while giving up two unearned runs. Robin struck out nine Canucks’ batters, gave up six hits, and walked four. Robin also helped his own cause at the plate, as he hit a triple, batted in two runs, and scored one himself. Josh LaClaire also hit a triple and was 2-4. Bronson Paetsch, Nic Nye, and Nick Dutchak all had two hits in the game.

After cleaning up the final 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball in the first leg, Royals’ Ben Lefebvre got the start in the second match. He went 4.2 while striking out six batters and giving up two runs—both unearned. Bronson Paetsch came in relief, closing out the final 2.1 innings, and gave up one earned run while striking out two.

Although he entered the second game as a substitute, Nathan Gay led the team with three runs batted in. Nic Nye was 4-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s, while Bronson Paetsch was 3-4 with two runs batted in and one run scored.

The Royals will head to Regina to take on the Pacers for two games on Sunday. The Royals’ next home game will be on June 29 against the Saskatoon Athletics.
