BRT6HC gives COVID-19 vaccines at Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords

It was a busy day at the Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords Wednesday, as the Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre (BRT6HC) visited to give COVID-19 vaccinations.

BRT6HC’s emergency management coordinator Bill Ironstand said everyone in society needs to receive their vaccinations to boost the numbers of those vaccinated in the province, and increase protection against the virus.

“This is how we are going to beat COVID, by making sure everybody has been vaccinated, and we will get to the 85 per cent,” he said. “Many of the most vulnerable are overlooked in the healthcare system. So we are making sure at Battle River Treaty 6 [Health Centre] that we reach out and try to get every area of society.”

Ironstand said the Saskatchewan Health Authority held clinics at the Lighthouse earlier in the year to give vaccinations, so the BRT6HC are continuing the effort.

“Because of the transient nature of the Lighthouse [visitors] and the programming, there are a lot of new people,” he added. “At BRT6HC, we will keep in contact with the Lighthouse as needed, for the clinics. We’ll do everything we can whenever needed to make sure we do this.”

Wesley Wuttunee, a Lighthouse client, said he appreciates having the clinics offered at the facility, to help stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus, “for everybody to be healthy again and live a normal life.”
