In the midst of a heatwave, many people around the city are finding ways to keep cool.

Whether they are utilizing the many spray parks around the city or shopping for summer supplies for their backyard, everyone is feeling the heat and everyone is trying to stay cool.

Fans, air-conditioners, pools, pool noodles, and coolers are all flying off the shelves at stores like Canadian Tire and Walmart.

“The pools, air-conditioners, anything really climate-related, as well as the camping stuff has really started to deplete in inventory,” Adam Mcnay, manager at Canadian Tire said.

“I know pool stuff is getting pretty slim. More and more people are doing the staycations instead of vacations, so they are spending money on home improvements.”

Canadian Tire has recently ordered some more of these items for inventory in their store.

Walmart is doing its best to keep up with the high demand as well.

“Fans and air-conditioners are selling incredibly well,” Chris Doucette, manager of Walmart said. “Our warehouses and buyers are trying to get as many in the stores as quickly as they can. We are getting more stock in every day which will help a lot.

“We still have lots of little pools and fun things for the kids to do outside. Lots of good pool floaties and things for the lakes as well. Fun things to get you out into the water to cool you off, we have lots of that in-store right now.”

On Friday of last week, Walmart donated a pallet of water to the food bank here.

“We knew they would need some support with keeping everyone hydrated,” Doucette said. “They’ve got some folks going out and distributing water to some people that need it during the heat wave, which is fantastic.”

Spray Parks

Spray parks are a great way to beat the heat and have opened up around the city, keeping people nice and fresh.

“It’s beautiful to have this here in Prince Albert,” Melissa Sander a resident of Prince Albert said. “We enjoy the outside in the afternoon, the water keeps the kids cool and I get to hangout in the shade.

“We’re for sure going to be out here in the summer. We’re just hanging out and hitting up anything we can for summertime.”
