Meadow Lake RCMP Charity Golf Tournament raising funds for Meadow Lake Arena, Parks and Recreation

The Meadow Lake RCMP is bringing back its charity golf tournament at the end of the month, no ifs, ands, but definitely some putts.

On July 24, the Meadow Lake RCMP Charity Golf Tournament will tee off at 1 p.m. at the Meadow Lake Golf Course. This year, all of the proceeds from the event will be directed to Meadow Lake Parks and Recreation so the department can continue delivering family-friendly activities throughout the summer, as well as cover the costs of running the splash park for families without charge.

A portion of the money will also be used to assist with the loss of the Meadow Lake & District Arena.

The event returns after a year-long absence caused by the public health measures put in place to combat the spread of COVID-19. With the event seemingly ready to launch for the third time, Cst. Jared Rau said having the event return to the community is a special affair.

“There’s so many great people in this community that give a lot to this community, and we want to help give back and show appreciation and love for this community,” Rau said. “We’ve had great success in the past, and we’re hoping to continue and grow on these tournaments for next year and the years after.”

People interested in participating in this year’s tournament can register a team of four players, or join a team as an individual. Each participant’s entry fee is set at $100, regardless of whether they are with a group or on their own. Registrations can be completed by contacting The Pro Shop by phone at (306) 236-6388. Each fee includes a $25 voucher to Devour Restaurant that can be redeemed for food and beverages.

Teams will compete against each other for the best score with the winner taking home the top prize. Rau stated there are many prizes up for grabs aside from the best score, so there will be many opportunities for golfers to walk away from the green with a little more than bragging rights.

“Even if you are a bad golfer, or if you’re a group of bad golfers, you can still be walking around with some great prizes as we have a prize for the most honest. We also have multiple hole challenges, a longest drive, closest to the pin and stuff like that to go along with the hole-in-one challenge.”

Some of the RCMP will be in attendance at the event, and Rau said he encourages residents to make their way to the tournament and interact with the officers in a capacity outside of their role in law enforcement.

“There’ll be lots of members there stationed throughout the course, as well as someone taking part. So, if you want to come see the RCMP members in a different light and see how fun we can all be, come on down.”

The tournament is still accepting prize donations, as well as cash donations that will go directly to the pot intended for the Parks and Recreation department and the arena. “We’re still hoping to get a few more donations and prizes. The RCMP itself is a non-profit organization, so everything relies on the generosity of others. We’re doing the best we can, we’re trying to make this great, and, hopefully, people in the community want to get behind it, come out and have a good time.”
