Walk for missing women Ashley Morin and Megan Gallagher sees strong show of support

Many dedicated, tired walkers returned home Sunday following the three-day walk for missing North Battleford woman, Ashley Morin, and missing Saskatoon woman, Megan Gallagher.

This is the third year for the Morin walk. The family of Megan Gallagher also took part in a united effort this year.

The families and many supporters walked along the highway from Saskatoon to North Battleford over the weekend to raise awareness.

Ashley Morin family spokesperson Krista Fox thanked everyone for their support.

“Everything ran pretty smooth,” she said. “Our meals were delivered. Those that stepped up and offered to help us out have helped us out. It was another good year.”

At the end of the walk, Fox unveiled a permanent sign now located outside the Allen Sapp Gallery, displaying a picture of Ashley Morin, with the Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers number for people to call with information.

Fox hopes the signage will serve as a continual reminder that Morin is still missing.

During the gathering after the walk, she said she hopes the walk will help families find answers.

“Our Ash and our Megan are not missing. They are taken from us. It’s time we bring them home,” she said.

Alexis Christensen with the Battlefords Agency Tribal Chiefs Inc., and Town of Battleford councillor, also took part in the walk.

On Morin’s disappearance in particular she said someone has to know something, and urged anyone who can provide information to come forward.

Megan Gallagher’s father Brian says his family relates to the pain the Morin family is suffering through with Ashley missing.

“When we found out that Megan was missing, your life changes in an instant,” he said. “You don’t eat the same. You don’t sleep the same. You don’t drive the same route, because you drive somewhere hoping that you might get a glimpse.”

Ashley Morin disappeared in July 2018, while Megan Gallagher has been missing since September 2020.
