Battlefords United Way sees hit with Annual Golf Tournament

The Battlefords United Way held their annual Summer Golf Tournament Monday at Jackfish Lodge Golf Course.

Featuring a near-capacity turnout of 110 golfers, event coordinator, Deborah Lindquist said they couldn’t be happier with how the day went and the community turnout.

“It was wonderful, the day went really smoothly and everyone showed up,” she said. “Everyone was in a great mood, and it was a beautiful day for a great cause. We’ve heard nothing but great reviews from the whole day.”

While the official total of funds raised has yet to be calculated from the event, all proceeds from the golf tournament will go back into the community through future events and charitable projects.

The Battlefords United Way has held their annual golf tournament for over two decades in the community with last year’s cancelation due to the pandemic, the only year to not have the event the last 21 years.

Lindquist said just seeing the way the community embraced the event’s return this year, both through sponsorships and event participation, was something special, even helping them surpass their attendance from pre-pandemic.

“Even though it was a bit of a crazy year with COVID, we actually ended up doing even better than our previous year in 2019,” Lindquist said. “We were definitely above our goal, and everybody really stepped up and helped us out this year. We had all our sponsors for our flags, liquor cart, meals and [more], so we just really appreciate all the community support this year for the United Way.”

Lindquist added that she would also like to thank the entire board for their hard work behind the scenes and throughout the day, that made the event the success it was. Those board members include chair and director, Duane LaFreniere, and members Kelli Hawtin, Monte Migneault, Donna Lehman, Derrick Keller, Grant Heintz, and Jennifer Rooke, as well as the many volunteers.
