Beavers, Trappers look to punch ticket to post-season with wildcard games Thursday
The North Sask. River Baseball League (NSRBL) wildcard series’ will kick off Thursday evening with a local flavour in each of the two matchups.
A single-knockout format to determine the final two playoff spots for the quarterfinals next week, the North Battleford Beavers (10th seed) will play the Unity Junior Cardinals (seventh seed) in Unity; while the Battlefords Trappers (eighth seed) will welcome the Meadow Lake Sox (ninth seed) to North Battleford for their winner-moves-on showdown.
The lower seed remaining of Thursday night’s two victors will then play the top-seeded Wilkie Brewers in the first round of the playoffs, while the other winning team will play second-seeded Standard Hill. The first round quarterfinals series will begin July 19.
Due to the 10th vs. seventh and ninth vs. eighth structure of the wildcard series, the outcome of Thursday’s Beavers vs. Junior Cardinals showdown will ultimately decide the quarterfinals matchups.
