Meadow Lake’s Drew Ackerman accepted into forestry products internship

A local man pursuing a career in the forestry products industry is set to embark on an explorative internship that will be documented throughout the process.

Meadow Lake’s own Drew Ackerman was recently accepted into the Forest Products Association of Canada’s (FPAC) Green Dream Internship Program. Since launching in 2013, the internship has provided students working in the forestry products industry with the ability to share their journey through the program.

Ackerman is currently studying at Guelph University to obtain his Bachelor of Commerce degree. Over the summer, he will work with the team over at Tolko Industries Ltd. in Meadow Lake. There he will create several blog posts detailing his experience and promoting green jobs in the forest products industry.

“I’m sharing some of my experiences working in the mill at Meadow Lake OSB, some of my personal experiences, and promoting the area around Meadow Lake itself. I truly feel like Meadow Lake is one of the best places to live if you like to fish, hunt, and go camping,” Ackerman said.

“I’ve heard about other people from the Tolko organization that have gotten into that program, and they’ve had nothing but good things to say about it. I know we take pride in our work. Everyone who works in that program just really loves their jobs, and it’s such an honor.”

With this new experience, Ackerman said he looks forward to learning about the evolving technology in the industry, and establishing valuable connections with people in the field.

“I’ve already developed a few relationships through the internship, and I also hope to gain some new experiences in terms of the forest products industry side of things. I think this would be a really good tool to have going forward knowing how technology is increasing in today’s society.”

Those who would like to follow Ackerman on his journey can reach his content through the FPAC’s Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn accounts.
