A significant paving project in the Kelvington area will soon be complete.

The project includes paving of the 23 km portion of Highway 38 north of the junction with Highway 49, is expected to be complete by mid-August.

Inside the Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, 10 km of road is being repaved, to account for $10.9 million of work.

In a release, Highways Minister Fred Bradshaw said Saskatchewan’s parks have been extremely popular destinations this summer.

“I am proud that the government has been able to enhance the experience both inside and leading to Greenwater Lake and other provincial parks,” Bradshaw said.

In the 2022 construction season, another 3.6 km of paving and repairs on Highway 36 from Chelan to the south has been added to the tender. The cost for that repair is $1.8 million, bringing area road improvements to a total investment of $12.7 million.

Kelvington/Wadena MLA Hugh Nerlien said the upgrades were essential in the area.

“I know the park is a very popular destination,” Nerlien said. “Our residents will also greatly appreciate this investment in Highway 38, which is a very important roadway in our local transportation network.”

Saskatchewan parks are benefitting from $90.5 million of construction that is taking place in and around parks this season. There are 11 highway paving projects, improvements to three park access roads and paving inside six parks around the province.

More than 1,350 km of highways in Saskatchewan are being improved this year. The projects are part of the Government’s 10-year growth plan goal to build and upgrade 10,000 km of highways.
