LLRIB ready to hire non-members to address employee shortage

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) and Keethanow Group of Businesses is facing an employee shortage.

In a statement released to band members on Aug. 11 and signed by the majority of band leadership, it was announced there are multiple entry-level and professional-level jobs available. It notes band members have not been applying resulting in the shortage and service delays.

“Social media is full of concerns and complaints regarding service delays and lineups at the stores and businesses,” the release states. “The effective service delivery depends on the availability of efficient manpower; it is our responsibility to be a part of [the] solution and not a problem.”

It adds as a band council, leadership ensures there are jobs available to band members, however, the current employee shortage is building pressure to either compromise on service or hire non-band members.

The statement from Hall Lake, La Ronge and Sucker River leadership encourages members to apply to the jobs available to them.

“Alternatively, the departments are left with no choice but to go outside of the band membership to cover the employee shortages,” it noted.

Reaction on social media was swift with some band members supporting the statement, while others urged leadership to increase wages or streamline hiring practices.

larongeNOW reached out to Keethanow Group of Businesses general manager Dennis Caplette, who wasn’t permitted to comment. LLRIB Chief Tammy Cook-Searson didn’t respond to an interview request before the time of publication.
