Preliminary hearing begins into death of Sheena Billette

The preliminary hearing into the murder of Sheena Billette began in Air Ronge this morning, more than a year and a half after her death.

The hearing is taking place at Elks Hall, which has been booked for the entire week. A preliminary hearing is held by the court to decide whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial. Witnesses are called and evidence against the accused in presented.

Judge Sid Robinson is leading the hearing and he ordered a publication ban at the request of the Crown. It was ordered in case the accused are tried by a judge and jury.

Billette, 28, was found deceased Dec. 23, 2019, approximately seven kilometres north of La Ronge. Four people were charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and forcible confinement.
