Sask Baseball HOF to Induct Class of 2021 this weekend

The Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will hold their 36th Annual Induction Ceremony honouring the class of 2021 this weekend at the Alex Dillabough Center.

Saturday’s event will begin at 5 p.m. and will feature the enshrinement of 12 individuals, three teams and one community into the hallowed halls.

Inducted in the Individuals category will be Fred Curts (Holdfast), Allan Fitzsimmons (Saskatoon), Al Greschuk (Yorkton), George Guillaume (Moose Jaw), Elemer Jerkovits (Regina), Rick Johnston (Maidstone), Kevin Kusch (Lloydminster), Rocky Nickel (Caronport), and Neil Urlacher (Okotoks, Alta./Macklin).

Posthumously inducted will be the late Father Leonard Albers (Bengough), the late “Goldie” Wiggins (Fillmore), and the late Roy Taylor (Visalia, California/Saskatoon).

In the team category, the Aquadell Flyers of 1947-1972, the Kamsack Cyclones, and Edam Blue Sox of 1985-94 will be enshrined; while the Village Of Gray, Sask., will round out the 2021 class in the community category.

Each of the 16 inductees from this year’s class were initially named to the class of 2020. However, due to the pandemic the 2020 induction ceremony was cancelled, bumping the celebration to this year and rebranding the ceremony as the class of 2021.

Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum CEO and president, Jane Shury said now just days away, the excitement for the weekend is palpable as they look forward to a return of their biggest event of the year.

“It’s very exciting,” Shury said. “Not only because it’s our 36th induction, but because we did not have an induction last year and those guys who are going to be inducted have been waiting. It’s really very exciting around here getting ready for it.”
