The lineup for the final dash of the Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association’s (CPCA) 2021 season is looking more and more secure.

Day 2 of the CPCA Finals saw Brad McMann of Chauvin, Alberta, pull ahead of the leaders to take home day-money. His time of 01:17.36 is the best of the finals thus far and one of his best results of the year.

The results for the top of the field were largely excellent as well. Jamie Laboucane of St. Wahlburg, who sits in third place, was Thursday’s runner-up, running at three tenths of a second behind McMann. The Baptiste brothers, Todd and Ryan of Red Pheasant Cree Nation, finished fifth and third respectively. The two lead the field, but are only a few points ahead of Laboucane.

Meadow Lake’s Logan Gorst finished eighth yesterday, but he remains within 10 points of Laboucane for third on the year and 18.5 points ahead of the next driver, Bonnyville’s Danny Ringuette. McMann sits at 15 in the driver standings.

Ringuette and veteran driver BJ Carey are likely the only two close to having any shot of catching Gorst for fourth place, which is the last spot available in Sunday’s dash, but there are challenges ahead. Because of outrider penalties on Wednesday, Carey has a lot of ground to make up in these last two days and would require a poor run from one of the top four to occur. Ringuette meanwhile, is only 16 in the show aggregate results for the finals, which will require similar circumstances for him to jump up to the top four.

Overall, Todd Baptiste leads both the driver standings for the season and aggregate results for the finals, though in the latter he’s only two tenths of a second ahead of Laboucane. Devin Mitsuing of Loon Lake, McMann, Ryan Baptiste and Gorst round out the next few spots in the aggregate.

Gates at the Lloydminster Exhibition Association open back up at 5:00 p.m., with the heats scheduled to begin around 90 minutes later.
