Melfort fall programming around the corner with the wrap-up of the summer playground program

Aug 26, 2021 | 1:06 PM

Residents of Melfort had no shortage of things to do this summer.

The eight-week playground program wrapped up yesterday and the second annual Amazing Race took place last Saturday.

Recreation programmer with the City of Melfort Shannon Marshall told northeastNOW the participation in the events is what makes them so successful.

“We were so pleased to see people out and enjoying the summer program and had great feedback again, and we also had 10 teams in our Amazing Race,” Marshall said. “We do still have the moose on the loose so look for him again this week and next week.”

While summer is wrapping up, the Northern Lights Palace Arena will be the place to be with public skate and stick and puck on the schedule.

For those wanting to soak up the last bit of the warm weather and outdoor time, there are pickle ball and disc golf sets available to the public to borrow free of charge at the Kerry Vickar Centre.

Community Connections and fall registration night takes place on Sept. 1 for those wishing to sign up for different activities and get more information on community groups.

“We will have sport, leisure, culture, service clubs and organizations so we encourage those interested in sport and wishing to get involved in the community to check it out,” Marshall said.

The showcase of the many different groups and organizations will be set-up from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Communities in Bloom will host a fall festival on Sept. 18 following the Melfort Multi-K, and the culture days will run Sept 24 to Oct. 24.

Additional details on each event will be posted in the coming weeks on the City of Melfort social media pages.
