Nipawin’s tourism department has unveiled its new logo at the recent town council meeting on Aug. 23.

Director of Parks and Recreation Chelsea Corrigan said a tourism grant through the Government of Saskatchewan for a new website and logo got the ball rolling on the new design.

“We wanted something modern, eye-catching, and a design that captured what Nipawin is all about,” Corrigan told northeastNOW.

The Nipawin Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Remarkable Branding is working on the new design, which encompasses the town’s logo, “exceptional by nature.”

It will feature the northern lights, symbolizing the teachings and practices of the First Nations people of the area and passing that on to future generations, a circle to represent unity, inclusion, and community, and a forest silhouette, which represents the beauty of the forests surrounding Nipawin as well as growth, strength, and prosperity.

The new website will be launched in the near future and the department has already started using the new logo.

The town will be applying for funding to revitalize their downtown.

Corrigan recommended to council that they approve the application for the Canada Community Revitalization Fund through the Western Economic Diversification Fund.

The application is asking for $885,944, plus GST, to start work on replacing decorative streetlights, remove and replace sidewalks, replace traffic light standards, and add additional trees, tree grates, and benches.

Corrigan said the project won’t start until funding has been secured.

The federal election may slow down the approval process, said Corrigan.
