Melfort Arts Council to host AGM, looking for more members

The Melfort Arts Council is looking to fill a couple of positions on the board at their upcoming annual general meeting (AGM).

Members of the newly rebranded council set up at Community Connections on Wednesday night.

Chair Joanne Bolen told northeastNOW they are seeking a new treasurer and secretary and are also hoping to get more volunteers on the board as fundraising efforts get underway.

“We need to fundraise so we can bring back live shows,” Bolen said. “We decided we needed to have the money in place first to be in the financial position to support that.”

The group plans to do brainstorming for fundraising ideas following the AGM that will take place on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre. There will be an online option to attend as well for those who are not able to be there in person.

“We will be presenting our annual financial statements, and getting everyone up to speed with what we have been doing the past year,” Bolen said.

An artist directory is in the working stages for artists, whether visual or performing. Forms are on the newly developed website for artists to fill out and be added to the directory.

“We will basically be a one stop shop for the arts in the northeast community,” Bolen said.

The next visual show for the council is slotted for November while performing arts shows will be on hold at least until 2022.
