Twin Rivers Curling Club not expecting vaccine requirement to start season

Curling season is just around the corner, and as such, the Twin Rivers Curling Club is readying preparations for the return of the sport this fall.

Earlier this week, Curling Canada sent out a release stating a mandatory vaccine policy on the national level. However, while the new mandate will be in effect for national events, it will not affect curling clubs at the local level – at least for the time being.

“That’s just National tournaments, which have very large events and a lot of players come in from a lot of different places,” Twin Rivers general manager, Kathy McNinch said. “We have a much smaller group that comes here, so we will not be implementing that policy at the moment.”

Instead, the local club will continue to run operations in accordance with provincial guidelines. While vaccines and mask wearing will be optional until further notice, the club will continue their diligent cleaning regimen and disinfecting of surface areas, while also providing hand sanitizer stations again this year.

Additionally, the local club will also split their season in two parts once again, after the format seemed to work well last year.

“We have every expectation and plan to be curling, but we’re holding the season in two parts so people do not have to pay the entire amount up front, just in case things change later in the year,” McNinch said.

“Everybody’s anxious to get back to curling and back to having a good social competitive activity, so we’re expecting there will be lots of people out again this year to curl,” she added.

Registration for the curling season will open Sept. 13, and is available online or at the club. The season will begin Oct. 12.
