Four candidates confirmed for the Humboldt chamber election forum live on Monday

Sep 9, 2021 | 12:00 PM

Constituents in the Carlton Trail-Eagle Creek riding will have a chance to engage with candidates in the upcoming candidate forum hosted by the Humboldt and District Chamber of Commerce.

All six candidates for the riding have been invited to participate in the forum, which will see candidates answer questions sent to the chamber.

The names on the ballot as it stands include Kelly Block, incumbent for the Conservative Party of Canada, Harrison Andruschak of the Liberal Party of Canada, Micheal Bohach of the People’s Party of Canada, Shannon O’Toole with the New Democratic Party, Diane Pastoor of the Maverick Party of Canada and Cherese Reemaul of Green Party of Canada.

Executive director of the chamber, Brent Fitzpatrick, told northeastNOW they have chosen the online platform because they can grab the candidates and audience from wherever they are.

Whether in person or online, election forums really allow for voters to put faces to the names of candidates who are asking for their support.

“This has been such a quick election call, a lot of people aren’t ready for this election. When it comes to putting an ‘X’ on a piece of paper, you want to make sure you’re ready,” he said.

Four out of the possible six candidates have already confirmed their participation with the chamber. The event will go forward even if the last two candidates will not be attending.

Fitzpatrick has already heard a number of concerns that people want candidates to address.

Top of mind he said is the reasoning for the election, which will be a crucial question for the Liberal candidate, Harrison Andruschak, from a party perspective as well as Conservative incumbent Kelly Block from an MP’s perspective, said Fitzpatrick.

Other concerns from businesses in the area including environmental issues and federal support for local business.

“With the recent announcement of bhp moving forward, there’s going to be a lot of activity here, and we’re certainly looking forward to having support from Ottawa on that.”

The Facebook Live event will start at 7 p.m. Anyone with questions for the candidates can call the chamber office at (306) 682-4990 or submit their questions via email at admin@humboldtchamber.ca.
