Shannon O’Toole, candidate for Carlton-Trail Eagle Creek riding focused on strengthening healthcare and education

“I’ve been active with the union and my community in strengthening public services, such as healthcare and education,” she explained. “I want voices to be heard that haven’t been heard and I want to improve how people are represented. Democracy needs to be an ongoing thing that people can be involved in every day.”

When reaching out to O’Toole about who she is, what her plans are and why she believes she should be voted in, she responded with the following.

Shannon O’Toole is a continuing care assistant, community advocate, and labour activist who said she is excited to join Jagmeet Singh in creating meaningful changes in Ottawa. She is ready to add her voice and energy to the NDP team and to serve people who are tired of broken promises and who crave a meaningful vision for the future.’

Working in rural homecare, O’Toole said sees the urgent need for strong, accessible health care and other vital public services. She supports expanding health care to cover mental health services, dentalcare, and pharmacare. She also advocates for building more affordable housing, providing universal access to affordable childcare, and strengthening pensions.

In Ottawa, she will also prioritize supporting action to develop a sustainable economy that tackles the climate emergency and wealth inequality.

As a labour and community activist, Shannon advocates for the rights of all people, including workers, people with disabilities, migrants, and the LGBTQ2SI+ community.
