Carrot River Elementary School to host Recreational Gymnastics club once again

Carrot River had a very successful Fall Registration Night on Thursday, as groups and programs welcomed back kids and parents to be able to register for activities.

For many groups in the community, this past year’s pandemic forced many changes to their activities.

For Miranda Blaber, community development manager for the town of Carrot River, she was very happy to once again see everyone getting involved in activities— that will currently have no restrictions.

“It was nice to see all of our groups back, accepting registrations and open for children and adults to get out and participate in some programming,” Blaber said.

For some groups, however, coming back this year is even more exciting as the pandemic completely shut them down.

“Some of our groups were unable to even operate their programs last year due to lack of facilities. With restrictions and public health guidelines that were put into place, some facilities were off-limits to the public.”

One of those groups was the Carrot River Recreational Gymnastics club, which was unable to run because of their facility.

They would normally run out of the Carrot River Elementary School, however, due to the pandemic, the school was closed to public groups.

“Last year we definitely missed out not being able to get in there,” said Marie Wiens, coach for the Carrot River Recreational Gymnastics club. “We run out of the elementary school and the division wasn’t allowing any outside community groups into the school last year, so this year we were really excited when we got a call that we could have our club again.”

Wiens also pointed to the fact that for parents who may not want to commit their kid to something that is multiple times a week or that costs a lot, that gymnastics is the perfect fit.

She also mentioned that gymnastics is a great starting sport, should a child want to eventually go into a different or another sport.

“Gymnastics is something that the really young kids take, it’s a really good foundation sport for any of the other sports,” Wiens said. “It is an easier thing to get your kids into the activities, without having to commit your entire winter or fall to it.”

Regardless if you’re a kid who wants to do gymnastics or something else and even if you’re an adult that wants to get into an activity, both said that they were very happy to be at this Fall Registration Night and that especially after the year and a half that we’ve all had, this night was a huge success.
