North Stars highlight deep attack in weekend preseason series with La Ronge

The Battlefords North Stars split their home-and-home with La Ronge over the weekend, winning Saturday 10-4, followed by a 6-5 shootout loss to the Ice Wolves in La Ronge Sunday.

The Stars are now 4-1 through the preseason, with two games remaining in the exhibition schedule.

Boding well for a deep attack this season, the Stars saw eight different goal scorers get on the board in Saturday’s ten-goal victory.

Ryder Kenyon (2G, 1A) and Tanner Klimpke scored a pair apiece, while Dylan Esau (1G, 3A), Ethan Scriven (1G, 3A), Wilson Steele (1G, 2A), Easton Rask (1G, 1A), Emmit Wurst (1G, 1A), and Aiden Arnold also lit the lamp for the team in the win.

In addition to the goals, the North Stars brought the bite as well, as evidenced by Easton Rask’s scrap versus the Wolves’ Ryan Chambers. (MartyMartyPxP1)

In Sunday’s game it was much the same story, even if the end result was not ultimately in the team’s favour.

Steele, Steven Kesslering, Holden Doell, Ethan Bear and Ryland McNinch cashed in for the team in Sunday’s contest, giving the North Stars 12 different goal scorers over the two games.

Between the pipes, goaltender Ulrik Roussel stopped 37-of-41 shots against, playing half of each of the two games. Fellow first-year goaltenders, Jero Rossi saved 15-of-17 Saturday, while Michael O’Sullivan stopped 15-of-18 Sunday.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcasts on 1050 CJNB will begin with the start of the regular season. The Stars will open their season at home versus Kindersley Sept. 24. The Ultra Print Pregame Show will begin at 7:15 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
