BUH Foundation celebrates 25th year of Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament

The Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation held their 25th annual Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament Monday at North Battleford Golf and Country Club.

The day marked the first time in two years the BUH Foundation was able to hold the tournament in-person, after last year’s event was moved to virtual format due to the pandemic.

Interim executive director with the BUH Foundation, Shauna McGifford said the event still saw a strong turnout of 178 participants on a blue-sky day for golf.

“It was a beautiful day, so it was a great day to be on the course, [and while] we didn’t have our full sellout this year, we still had a great turnout,” she said. “We had some new teams join us, and people who have been with us for 25 years join us, so it was great to see them all.”

While the final donation total from the day has yet to be calculated, McGifford said the BUH Foundation proceeds were at approximately $43,000 heading into tournament day from golfer fees and sponsorships alone.

Proceeds from this year’s event will go towards purchasing a special bed for palliative care at the hospital.

McGifford said they are grateful for another strong turnout this year, and to all those who came out to help raise funds for health care in the community.

“I’d like to just thanks all of our golfers for coming out and all our sponsors for joining us once again,” she said. “They really do make a real difference for health care and in our community and we greatly appreciate that.”
