Melfort Multi-K announces slight changes for race day

Sep 17, 2021 | 10:00 AM

Race day at the Melfort Multi-K on Saturday will look a little bit different but will still go ahead.

Race Director Allison Rogers told northeastNOW there will be no mass warm-up during opening ceremonies and there is a slight schedule change.

“We are going to send the 21k’s out first, then we will do the fun run, and then the 5k and 10k’s will go out after that,” Rogers said. “We will start a little bit different just to make sure that everyone stays healthy.”

Participants are being asked to wear a mask until take off and maintain social distancing while waiting in line and in their groups. Masks should be worn until sent out on the course and garbage cans will be provided to put masks into.

This year, each run will have a pulse start.

“We are going to be lining everyone up, six feet apart at the start line, you will be placed on a dot, and we will send them out five people at a time,” Rogers said.

Participants are also asked to arrive as close to their event time as possible. Extra masks will be provided after the race for those ditch their mask into the garbage for their run.

“We want to keep spectators to a minimum, we know it is important to have people there to cheer you on, but we do want to keep that to a minimum,” Rogers said.

Medals will be given out immediately after each race.

Sportstats will have a results tent set-up where bibs can be scanned to reveal time and place for runners.

There will be road closures popping up in the city as well to accommodate the course.

“Watch for no parking zones around the course to allow space for the runners,” Rogers said. “We try to keep it to minimum, but some barricades will be going out.”

Package pick-up takes place tonight from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Kerry Vickar Centre in the CJVR Performing Arts Theatre.
