Conservative incumbent Cathay Wagantall reclaimed her seat last night in the Yorkton-Melville riding.

Wagantall told northeastNOW she is thrilled that constituent put their trust in her once again.

“I am disappointed with the outcome federally, the fact that we are basically back to where we started in the House of Commons,” Wagantall said. “I am ready to go and we will continue to hold the Prime Minister to account.”

Wagantall garnered nearly 70 percent of the vote followed by the NDP’s Halsten Rust who had 12 percent. The People’s Party of Canada had nearly 10 percent of the vote.

Although most Canadian will feel the federal election was a waste of time and money, Wagantall said there was a silver lining.

“I have never in the course of just serving, let alone during an election, had the amount of direct interaction from individuals in my riding asking very serious questions and wanting clear answers,” Wagantall said. “There are a lot of concerns out there about our freedoms, and where our country is going, and the debt that we are incurring.”

Up next for Wagantall is to meet and determine the direction on government hill and what the approach will be for her team.

“Going back and continue to hold Trudeau to account, and I’m not sure what he will bring forward first,” Wagantall said. “We will be more intent on doing everything we can to shut down legislation that is hurting Canada.”

Wagantall said getting back to the House of Commons is a priority because the idea of working at home and having limited interaction is not acceptable anymore.
