Carrot River Fire & Rescue to host Firefighters Ball

Sep 29, 2021 | 8:00 AM

Carrot River Fire & Rescue will be hosting their 2021 Firefighters ball to raise money for necessary equipment and celebrate the accomplishments of fire and rescue staff.

Dylan Borody, Deputy Chief of Carrot River Fire & Rescue, told northeastNOW that they are excited to host the second annual event on Nov. 27 after the COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on fundraising last year.

“It’s a fundraiser for our department for extra rescue items as well as fire items that were unable to be budgeted into our yearly budget with the RM and the town.” Borody said.

“We are looking at a second set of jaws. We are looking at a possible rescue truck in the future that we might be able to put some of the funds towards, contributing our funds inclusive of the town and the RM in purchasing a possible rescue truck.” he said.

The department will also be celebrating the individuals who put their lives on the lines to keep Carrot River safe.

“It’s an event where we also recognize some of our firefighters accomplishments, whether that is their training opportunities or retirements.” Borody said.

In addition to having fundraising put on hold, the pandemic has also limited in the way the fire and rescue crew can train together.

“Throughout COVID, the government had policies that didn’t allow large groups to train together. We tried to accomodate as best as we can with numbers, we did put practices on hold for a while unfortunately,” Borody said. “But we’re making our way through it.”
