What is closing on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Melfort?

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is tomorrow leaving the community wondering what is opened and what is closed.

All City of Melfort facilities will be closed with the exception of the Northern Lights Palace Pool. There will be a limited event schedule that can be found at The Northern Lights Palace Pool website.

Businesses closed on the holiday according to The Melfort Trade Alliance Chamber of Commerce are:

  • Nutters Everyday Naturals
  • Coldwell Banker Signature
  • George Home Hardware
  • JBN Promotions
  • Melfort SARCAN Depot
  • Realty Executives Gateway Realty
  • K & S Sign Shoppe

The Prairie North Co-op will have modified hours for the holiday opening from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The gas bar will be opened from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Re/Max Keystone Realty Melfort and Melfort Dance Centre will also be closed.

Dress Well with Gisele will be open and donating 10 per cent of all purchases to raise awareness for the Marguerite Riel Centre in Melfort for Truth and Reconciliation.

The City of Melfort is hosting a Truth and Reconciliation event beginning at 11:50 a.m. at Melfort & Unit Comprehensive Collegiate.

The Government of Canada published a list of resources for those wanting to learn more about Truth and Reconciliation.

For Indigenous people seeking support during this holiday, the government has issued resources for those struggling.

Residential school survivors can call 1-866-925-4419.
