Death count of people with COVID-19 totals 700 in the province

With three new deaths of Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 being reported today by the provincial government, the death count in Saskatchewan has now totalled 700.

The province has also reported another 470 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today with 385 cases among unvaccinated individuals.

Of the new cases today, 84 are among children ages 0-11 years old while there are also 299 total cases among people under the age of 40.

The new cases in northern Saskatchewan totaled 139; Far North West (18), Far North Central (one), Far North East (11), North West (44), North Central (48), and North East (17).

There are currently 4,770 cases considered active in the province, 1,649 of which have been identified in the Northern zones of the province.

Just under one-third (32.8 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

One in six (17.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Oct. 1, a total of 313 individuals are hospitalized; including 245 inpatient hospitalizations, and 68 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 313 patients eligible for vaccination, 232 (74.1 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA Data

There are 27 new cases to report on Sept. 30 in NITHA communities; 20 (74 per cent) were unvaccinated, three (11 per cent) are partially vaccinated and four (15 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 276 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 12; Far North West, 76; Far North East, 137; North Central, 40; and North East, 11. There have been 5,740 cases (95 per cent) that have recovered, and 18 people are hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

The Athabasca Health Authority has reported one new COVID-19 case in Fond Du Lac with no recoveries reported during a daily update for Sept. 30.

There is now a total of 13 active COVID-19 cases all in Fond Du Lac.

Some cases may be reported in Black Lake in the coming days – potentially in connection with the cultural camp held today.

Executive director of Primary Health Care, Taiwo Olubanwo said in a Facebook post that they, “do not foresee a spike in the number as potential spike is effectively managed. While we encourage the community members to continue to be cautious, we want to say a big thank you to everyone for their cooperation. Stay safe and get vaccinated.”
