Melfort Toastmasters to host an open house

Oct 1, 2021 | 1:00 PM

The Toastmaster Club of Melfort, Saskatchewan is hosting an open house for those interested in learning more about what the club does.

Margaret Andris, vice president of public relations for Melfort Toastmasters, said that the event will feature a very special guest.

“We’re going to have Darren LaCroix, who is a world champion speaker,” Andris told northeastNOW. “He is going to do a presentation called ‘from chump to champ’, so we can do the process of chartering for our club.”

Toastmasters International is a non-profit educational organization that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators and leaders.

Andris said that she is thankful that LaCroix is coming to help out the club.

“We are so excited for this, because what he is giving us is a real boost. As a small club, we would never be able to afford (for him) to come and give this speech. So I thank him from the bottom of my heart.” Andris said.

Last month Melfort Toastmaster rallied for new members in order to become a chartered club.

“Chartering will give us access to many things that we don’t have as a non-chartered club.” Andris said.

A club needs to have 20 members in total in order to be chartered. Andris said that they are only two members away from becoming a chartered club and wants to remind people that they are not limited to just the northeast area.

“You don’t have to live right here in Melfort. You could live in China and join. With Zoom you can join anywhere. We have people who join us from Regina.” Andris said. “We have had a couple of gentleman join us from Indian, some from Asia. Its not confined to a few miles from the club.”

The event is set to take place virtually on Monday Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.

“You don’t have to be a toastmaster to join, you can be a non-toastmaster and just come and watch the show. You can enjoy that from the pleasure of your front room.” Andris said.
