Peace rally in Humboldt speaks up against vaccines and vaccine passports

Members of the Humboldt community were in Civic Park today to hold a peaceful rally on Oct. 1.

Organizers said in an email statement to northeastNOW they are part of a Saskatchewan wide coalition to build unity around the province regarding vaccines and vaccine passport mandates being issued by the province.

“We stand together to protect the values that made this nation so great and work on stopping the division, hate, discrimination and coercion happening all around us,” the statement read.

The rally started around 10 a.m. with under 100 people bordering the park with homemade signs to engage with traffic on both Highways 5 and 20.

One rally attendee named Terry, no last name was provided, said he was there to promote freedom of choice when it comes to vaccines.

“I believe that a person should have a choice whether he wants to be vaccinated or not vaccinated. I’m not against anybody that does vaccinate, I just feel it’s in the constitution, I just feel we should have our choice,” he said.

Mayor of Humboldt, Michael Beheil, welcomed the rally saying that he encourages and respects everyone’s right to freedom of speech. However, Beheil said everything the policies and procedures being put into place by the city are policies that are mandated by the province.

“It’s their local place, they can complain, although it’s probably a little bit misguided because it really should be more directed to the province than the city,” he explained.

The province reported 32 new cases on Oct. 1 in the Central East region of the province, specifically nine in Central East, where Humboldt is located with a total of 110 cases currently active in that specific part of the region, and 271 in the region as a whole. Provincially there are 4,770 active cases provincewide as of Oct. 1.
