BRSI introduces new executive director

Oct 4, 2021 | 4:38 PM

Trudy Kern is taking over as executive director of Battlefords Residential Services Inc. (BRSI) for long serving Deborah Bartlett.

The change comes following Bartlett’s resignation after 37 years in the position. In the board of director’s meeting on Sept. 28, Kern was welcomed by its members after having officially began in her new role on Sept. 20.

Of her appointment, Kern said she was honoured that the board chose her to take on this role. She has worked with non-profit organizations in a variety of financial positions over the past 15 years.

“Those are some really big shoes to fill, so I’m honoured to do that,” she said.

The board expressed appreciation to Bartlett for her dedication and commitment to BRSI, which had a significant impact on the agency and the individuals that are supported. Kern had her own thanks for Bartlett, who stayed a few more weeks to help her adjust to the role.

“A lot of information to take in, but I’m grateful she did that and I can see why everyone will miss her,” Kern said. “Her passion for this organization and its people was clear.”

BRSI provides residential, day programming and support services to individuals in the community with developmental disabilities. Their support includes multiple group homes and a Supported Living Program. Kern said she hopes to continue the organization’s work in providing for those residents most in need.

“We want to continue providing the best client care that we can and allowing them to live happy, healthy lives in the community,” she said.
