Fall Market

First ever Tisdale Fall Market a huge success, Thanksgiving weekend last of the year

The first annual Tisdale Fall Market is well underway this year and so far it has been a huge success. The market, which is a five-weekend event, began Sept. 10 and ends this Sunday, Oct. 10.

The market is the first of its kind in the area and is being held at the Northside Greenhouses in Tisdale.

Owner of the Greenhouses and organizer of the market, Tracy Darmokid, is very proud of how successful the market has been so far and that is one of the main reasons this actually came to fruition was because of the great response from vendors.

“It’s going really good,” said Darmokid. “We just thought of it one day, that I should hold markets inside my greenhouses and I put an ad on Facebook and the market people started messaging me and calling me and because of that, we have a market.”

And as to how Darmokid got the idea in the first place, she pointed towards the places she has travelled and the markets that she had seen and thought why not Tisdale?

“I’ve done a bit of travelling and if you go down east or to Nashville or Alaska, you see markets of all kinds and I thought you know what, Northeast Saskatchewan, we can do this, so I give it a whirl and thank goodness it worked.”

For Darmokid, not only did it work well for this year but between both the positive reaction from vendors and the general community, this will be something that will hang around Tisdale for a considerable amount of the foreseeable future.

“The community has been great, everyone keeps coming in and saying that it’s a great idea and they’re supporting us all very well,” said Darmorkid. “We have five vendors here that have already booked every weekend next year.”

Hopefully, for everyone involved, the presence of COVID-19 will be no longer next time around, as there are big plans in the works for the event to grow even bigger.

“We’re going to do an expansion,” said Darmokid. “We’re adding two more greenhouses and we will have over 12,000 square feet of growing space. In the spring we might offer summer markets. I’m hoping to collect more vendors and we’ll go from there.”

As much as this fall market has already been a huge success, Darmokid hopes to see lots of people this coming Thanksgiving weekend, as it will be the biggest and best yet.

“We have lots,” said Darmokid. “This weekend is going to be our last one and our biggest one. We started out with eight vendors and now we’re up over 20. If we could get them all under the same roof at the same time, we’d have up to 40.”
