North Stars to open SJHL Showcase against Melville

The Battlefords North Stars will take to the ice in Warman Monday morning, bright and early for the SJHL Showcase at Legends Centre.

An event featuring all 12 of the league’s teams, the Stars will play the Melville Millionaires in the opening game of the three-day event which will be held Oct. 4–6.

The Stars (3–1–1), who enter play coming off a 6–3 win on home ice Friday over their division rivals from Humboldt, will play a Melville team (0–1–0), who played just their first game of the season Sunday, in a 4–2 loss to Kindersley.

Not much will change in the Stars’ lineup heading into Monday’s contest, outside of their fourth line and goaltending.

Up front the top line of Jake Southgate, Holden Doell and Dace Prymak, who combined for two goals and six points Friday, will remain together; as will the second unit of KT Walters to the left of center, Emmett Wurst and Steven Kesslering.

Together the Walters/Wurst/Kesslering line also showed a natural chemistry last game, with Walters cashing in for his third goal of the year.

Veteran Dylan Esau, who is coming off his best game of the young season that saw the veteran pick up two goals and four points, will be re-joined by Ryland McNinch and Matthew Henry on a dogged forechecking unit.

Drawing back into the lineup on the fourth line will then be wingers Ethan Scriven and Ryder Kenyon, who will flank pivot Tanner Klimpke on a quick and skilled fourth unit.

On the blue line, the early-season tandems of Wilson Steele/Riley Little, Sam Witt/Jordan Grill, and Tynan Ewart/Easton Rask will remain together, while goaltender, Cam Beson will return to the crease after last playing Thursday in La Ronge.

The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will begin with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 10 a.m., with puck drop to follow at 10:30 a.m. on 1050 CJNB.
