The Battlefords North Stars’ lethal offence was on full display once again Tuesday, as the team topped the Yorkton Terriers 6-5 at the showcase in Warman, for their third straight win.

Coming off a 9-5 victory over Melville, with a 6-3 win over Humboldt just prior to that, the Stars have now scored 21 goals over their last three games, on their way to the 3-0 roll.

Five different players scored for the Stars in the victory, as Jake Southgate led the way with a pair of goals, while Ethan Scriven scored the first of his career, and Ryland McNinch, Tanner Klimpke, and Sam Witt also scored in the victory.

Southgate’s pair move the 19-year-old into a tie for the team lead with five (Emmett Wurst also has five), while McNinch’s fourth of the season gives him three over his last two outings.

Much like the aforementioned pair (Southgate and McNinch), Klimpke also scored in both showcase games for the Stars, notching his second in as many games one night after his first career goal Monday. Witt’s second also gives the veteran blue liner a pair early in the year.

At the other end, Terriers captain, Kishaun Gervais had a pair of his own, while Tyson Janzen had a goal and three points, and Clay Sleeva and Carson Henry also scored in the loss.

With the victory, the Stars improve to 5-1-1 through their opening seven games, while Yorkton fall to 1-6 to start their schedule.

Both teams saw great success on the power play, as the Stars went 3-for-6 with the man-advantage, while Yorkton weren’t far behind, converting on 3-of-7 opportunities.

Stars goaltender, Ulrik Roussel stopped 11 of 14 shots against through the first 37:32 of the night, before having to leave during the late stages of the second to get a repair done to the blade of his skate, which was damaged with just over two minutes to go in the middle frame.

Cam Beson came on to finish the final 21:29 of the game, making 14 saves on 16 shots for the win. Yorkton’s Jacob Herman stopped 31 of 37 North Stars’ shots in the loss.

The Stars will return to action Friday at home versus Humboldt. The NAPA Auto Parts North Stars Hockey Broadcast will begin with the Ultra Print Pregame Show at 7 p.m., with puck drop to follow at 7:30 p.m.
