Water treatment plant plans have been announced by the Town of St. Brieux.

On Oct. 5, council for the Town of St. Brieux released plans for their water treatment plant.

Through the Small Communities Funding Program, the Town of St. Brieux has received a total of $2,066,000 from both the Federal and Provincial governments to help build the water treatment plant.

Heather Hind, the Town’s Chief Administrative Officer, said the grant will assist the Town in improving the quality of its water.

“Today our existing wells are not recovering. So we needed a new well no matter what. So with the grant it was perfect timing,” Hind said.

Hipperson Construction Company LTD of Regina was awarded the contract for the Water Treatment Plant on Oct. 4.

The construction project is scheduled to be completed by May 2022, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Construction will begin in October and residents may encounter delays or changes to their regular routes.

“There is going to be large equipment in one area on third avenue south. Ongoing construction will start now and take about 200 to 250 days to be complete. The back alley will be closed to the public due to connecting the well to the new treatment plant. There will be noise,” Hind told northeastNOW.

Hind thanked the Town of Saint Brieux and the surrounding resorts for their patience during the past two years.

“We are very thankful to our rate payers who have helped us through this time. They were on water restriction for over two years because of the failure of our existing wells. We truly appreciate them,” Hind said.
